![]() ![]() This means that mid kill, you might have a string of unlucky hits, which leads to you having to eat, slowing down your kill and increasing the damage you take. If Elysian blocks the second hit, 25% of the total damage is reduced, not the average of 17.5%. This gives Divine the distinct advantage, because it is always working at 100% capacity, while if the Elysian doesn't block an above average hit, its overall effectiveness goes down. This is because while you can average out Elysian's activation rate, you are also relying on a secondary RNG, NPCs hitting high and low. If Elysian doesn't activate on the second hit, 100% of the damage goes through. The problem is further exacerbated with larger hits: Total damage while wearing Elysian: 48.75Įlysian in this case only reduced 11%~ of the damage. What if Elysian protects every odd hit, along with the final two even hits? (7/10) This margin seems to be so small though, which brings us to the next point, which I think is often overlooked, and actually is the real reason that Divine is considered the far more powerful shield:Ĭonsider for a moment, 10 hits in a row of damage. This means for PvM activities where you want maximize your inventory space, and either are not planning to (or cannot) use stack-able/indefinite healing methods, Divine is the superior choice. Using Elysian and taking 2 Brews and another restore, would give a total of 1,198.5 healing from the inventory.ĭivine is superior to Elysian (not by a massive margin) when taking into account reduced inventory space.īut as seen above, once a certain threshold of healing is reached in an inventory, it becomes too expensive (space-wise) to start trading out healing for prayer potions. Using Divine and taking 2 prayer potions and another brew, would add up to a total of 1,248 healing from the inventory. Lets examine a slightly more realistic scenario. This is far from a realistic scenario, but displays that at a certain amount of healing per inventory slot, Divine falls behind. (or effectively 474hp more from your brews) (or effectively 450hp more from your brews) With Divine (replacing 3 brews with Prayer potions) you get 1,950 healing. This means that for sharks, Divines hp to prayer point ratio is better than Elysian's reduced flat reduction. (effectively adding 156hp healing).Įlysian turns 28 sharks (560) healing into 658 healing. Below is my reasoning:ġ Prayer potion swapped in, in conjunction with Divine turns that 520 healing into 676 worth of healing (removing one shark and adding a prayer potion (4). This means, that any place that you need prayer to continue, and therefore are reliant on prayer restore via inventory, Divine is simply better. I would love for it to enter the game.īut I don't want my self admitted bias to influence simple facts about the two shields.ĭivine is superior to Elysian in every way if you are dealing with limited inventory space and are not taking indefinite healing.ĭivines 100% damage reduction rate actually messes with its comparison to Elysian.įirstly, Divine requires prayer to fuel it. I like how it looks, it was my spirit shield of choice pre-EoC. This isn't meant to be an exhaustive look at each individual boss and its setup, but rather a look at the fundamental mechanics of each shield, and then using an example (A Bandos trip for example) to study how Divine/Elysian perform. This one will earn you a ban.Īfter seeing that Divine is being considered for a poll, I thought I would revisit some ideas about effectiveness of both Elysian and Divine in PvM.
